POLICE have yet to identify the vendors who caused the injury of a female traffic law enforcer during a street brawl in Cogon Market on Wednesday, December 18, 2019.
The road clearing team, comprised of members of the Roads and Traffic Administration (RTA), was supposed to conduct a road clearing operation as part of the implementation of the Christmas traffic scheme when several ambulant vendors refused to follow the order and turned violent.
Police Major Zean Paul Cubil, Police Station 2 commander, admitted they are having a hard time identifying the suspects since most of the vendors have refused to cooperate.
“Hanggang ngayon, we are still verifying the names of the suspects which were given by our assets. Nagtutulungan kasi ang mga vendors kaya nahihirapan kaming ma-identify sila,” he said.
Cubil said five persons attacked the traffic enforcers, but only two persons started the fight.
A video circulating online shows a traffic enforcer holding a long stick-like object which he used to hit the rowdy vendors.
Cubil said they still don’t know whether some vendors were hurt because no one came forward to complain.
He added there is no hospital record about a pregnant vendor who was allegedly hurt from the brawl.
Cubil assured that security is tight at the market while the road clearing operations continue.
“Nung una, walang sistema kaya medyo nag-react. Siguro may pagkukulang din ang RTA na-angasan din. Siguro, may ginawa na di ka nais-nais pero nag-usap na kaming lahat para hindi na maulit yung nangyari. Misinformation lang siguro, hindi na disseminate ng maayos,” he added. (PJO)
