3,234 stranded in Eastern Visayas due to  ‘Ursula’

A TOTAL of 3,234 persons were stranded in various sea ports in Eastern Visayas due to Typhoon Ursula, which made landfall in Salcedo, Eastern Samar Tuesday afternoon, December 24.

In Allen, Northern Samar, authorities recorded 2,408 stranded individuals, while 615 in San Ricardo, Southern Leyte.

In Liloan, Southern Leyte, 325 remain in the port terminal area, and 46 in Ormoc City and 165 in Bato, Leyte.

The number of vehicles stranded has reached 480 as of 4 p.m. Tuesday. Allen has 257, Liloan has 83, San Ricardo port got 129, and 11 in Bato.

For stranded ships, authorities recorded four. These include three in Liloan and one in Naval, Biliran.

Reports from the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Eastern Visayas stated that a total of 822 evacuation centers have been established across the region.

Northern Samar has 148 evacuation centers; Southern Leyte has 152; Leyte, 233; Ormoc City, 83; Biliran, 53; Eastern Samar, 53; Samar, 95; and Tacloban City, 5.

The number of evacuees has reached 842, where 39 are in Ormoc City, 313 in Tacloban City, and 490 in Northern Samar.

No casualty has been reported as of Tuesday afternoon.

Lieutenant Colonel Ma. Bella Rentuaya, regional spokesperson of PRO-Eastern Visayas, said they have already deployed their search and rescue personnel in affected areas while other personnel are on standby for any emergency.

Meanwhile, flights remained cancelled in DZR Airport in Tacloban City as of December 24.

Areas without electricity were in Capul, San Isidro, and San Antonio, Northern Samar, as well as in Maslog and Jipapad in Eastern Samar. (SunStar Philippines)
