Bishop renews call for end to killings in Negros

BACOLOD Bishop Patricio Buzon renewed his call for an end to the killings in Negros.

In his Christmas message, Buzon said: "Living in fear and violence is not living life to the full. It impinges on our sense of security as persons even while we are already inside our homes."

He said the spate of unresolved killings in Negros and the impunity of the perpetrators has put into question progress and development.

"Violence never begets real progress and sustainable development, peace will," he pointed out.

Despite the rains brought about by Typhoon Ursula, hundreds of worshippers flocked to various parish churches in the Diocese of Bacolod on Christmas Eve.

Buzon further said Christmas is being celebrated because Jesus came to the world to become one of us and that we may have life in all its abundance.

"This living life to the full is only possible with Christ," he said. "To have life is to receive Christ, the source of life."

Buzon also called on the people of the diocese to choose life and denounce fear and violence.
