Fireman stabs colleague to death

WHAT would have been a joyful Christmas party ended in tragedy.

A fireman in Bacolod City on Monday, December 23, 2019 was killed after being stabbed by his colleague.

Police Major Sherlock Gabana, head of Police Station 2, identified the fatality as Fire Officer 3 (FO3) Isaac Cabana of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Bacolod.

Gabana said Cabana and FO3 Cornelio Silva had a drinking session across the fire station after their Christmas party when a commotion ensued between them.

“Some other personnel were surprised when the two suddenly hugged each other while lying on the ground,” he said, adding that they just knew that the firefighters were already wounded upon checking them.

Cabana sustained a lone stab wound on the neck, while Silva was hit on his stomach and back. They were rushed to the hospital, but Cabana was pronounced dead.

Authorities recovered from the scene a “balisong” which was used in the crime. However, they cannot determine who owns it and who stabbed first.

Gabana said they have yet to establish the motive behind the stabbing since one of the injured fireman was still confined at the hospital.

He said the investigation is still ongoing.
