Bacolod to hold New Year countdown at BGC

BACOLOD City will hold a New Year’s Eve countdown with fireworks display at the Bacolod Government Center (BGC) grounds on December 31.

Councilor Israel Salanga, chairperson of the City Council committee on tourism, said Friday, December 27, that this is a yearly activity of the City Government which was introduced by Mayor Evelio Leonardia to give an opportunity for the families to enjoy the fireworks display.

He said the fireworks display will be sponsored by the PanAsiatic Solutions.

“We have several activities for the countdown that will start at 6 p.m., we want everybody here to enjoy,” he added.

Salanga noted that there will be dance showdown with participants from various villages, live band, raffle, and among others.

The councilor said thousands of Bacolodnons are expected to join the countdown.

Siony Hijara-Ferraris, site director and general manager of PanAsiatic Solutions, said that PanAsiatic started this tradition with Bacolod City Mayor Leonardia.

“We’ve been the partner of Bacolod City in the countdown by sponsoring the fireworks ever since and from then on yearly, we make sure that we’ve a budget for the countdown,” she said.

She added this year, they increased the budget from P230,000 to P280,000 and this will be spectacular fireworks.

Hijara-Ferraris noted they started the New Year’s countdown in 2011 in Bacolod.

“We are inviting all the families here to please do come and join us as we welcome the New Year,” Hijara-Ferraris said.

She also urged their employees to bring their families to witness the fireworks display.

The fireworks display, which will last for 10 to 15 minutes, will start at 12 midnight.
