Cebu City workers receive bonuses

THE City Treasurer’s Office (CTO) has released the salaries, bonuses and cash gifts of more than 5,000 Cebu City Government employees.

Acting City Treasurer Monina Paires said she already signed all documents, including the payrolls.

The release of the salaries and bonuses had been delayed after the contract of then acting treasurer Arlene Rentuza expired on Dec. 11, 2019.

No other CTO official was authorized to sign any document.

The Bureau of Local Government and Finance appointed Paires on Dec. 11. However, she was not able to sit on the same day as she received the order only five days later, Dec. 16.

According to Paires, the employees’ bonuses and salaries were not released simultaneously. The payrolls of the departments that submitted fast were the first documents she signed for release.

Last Nov. 19, Mayor Edgardo Labella signed the release of P101 million worth of additional bonuses that were sourced from the City Hall savings.

The Christmas bonus was set at P20,000 per employee. Its release was based upon the recommendation of the Program on Awards and Incentives for Service Excellence headed by Assistant City Administrator Junine Aragones.

The city’s regular and casual employees, and elected officials received the same amount, across the board. (PAC / KAL)
