Custodio: Taking responsibility

Custodio: Taking responsibility

LAST Friday, we went to Ortigas Center and the traffic was horrendous! Of course things wouldn’t be as bad if we had left before the mad rush set in. In fact, we would’ve probably avoided getting stuck in traffic if we had made the effort to go earlier! It really gets crazy over here during the rush hour so what normally took half an hour, now took us an hour and a half!

As we are not really accustomed to being “in traffic” as the Manileños are, you do get bored with the time you have in your hands. I did have a few things on my mind that I had the chance to really reflect on.

I am flabbergasted by the news that people have been stoning the new trains that the Philippine National Railways (PNR) has recently launched to ply several routes to service our fellow men but apparently they get attacked with stones from slingshots on their way to Alabang! Why would anyone do that? These trains can ease transportation woes and yet there are individuals who deliberately damage them with the possibility of causing harm to commuters too! I don’t get it. Taxpayers’ money went into purchasing those trains! It’s just sad that something like this can happen!

I wish each one would feel a sense of responsibility when it comes to these things because they make things easier for everyone. We keep complaining about the government doing nothing to alleviate the traffic/commuting problem and yet when something concrete has been done to address the problem, some people sabotage it. Ugh. It just makes me want to puke and throw a fit! So disappointed!

It reminds me of those who do not clean as they go when they eat at fast food joints and cafes. It makes me groan and roll my eyes when people do not dispose of their trash properly. So cringe-worthy, right?

In our little way, we should really play an active role in keeping our environment clean and in appreciating what we have. After all, we all make up this country. We are the Philippines. We all represent our country. It is not enough to complain and point out all our misgivings and leave it to the administration to do all the dirty work. It is not an excuse that you do not like the President and his government.

We are all citizens of this country so we should work hand in hand regardless of political affiliation. We should all help in providing the solution. We should all work together. If we could just do this, things will get a bit better don’t you think?
