Central Visayas wage hike takes effect January 5

MINIMUM wage earners in Central Visayas will only have to wait until January 5, 2020 before they start receiving their salary adjustments.

This as the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) said Wage Order No. ROVII-22 of the Central Visayas wage board will take effect on January 5, 2020.

"The minimum wage increase in Central Visayas was published at The Freeman last December 21, 2019 and will be in effect starting January 5, 2020," the NWPC said in its Facebook post on Friday, December 27, 2019.

"Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to the workers of Central Visayas," it added.



Under Wage Order No. ROVII-22, workers in the non-agricultural sector in Class A cities and municipalities will now be paid P404 daily minimum wage after getting an P18 increase.

Workers in the agriculture sector in these areas will get an increase of P26. Their minimum wage would be P394 from P368.

Those employed by establishments with less than 10 workers will also get P394 after an increase of P18.

Class A cities are Carcar, Cebu, Danao, Lapu-Lapu, Mandaue, Talisay and Naga. Class A towns are Compostela, Consolacion, Cordova, Liloan, Minglanilla, and San Fernando.

In Class B cities and towns, minimum wage earners in the non-agriculture sector and establishments with less than 10 workers will get an adjustment of P18 to P28 while workers in the agriculture sector will receive P33 to 48 increase.

The new minimum wage for workers in the non-agriculture sector in these areas will be P366 a day. Workers in the agriculture sector and establishments with less than 10 employees should get at least P361 a day.

Class B cities are Bais, Bayawan, Canlaon, Dumaguete, Guihulngan, and Tanjay in the province of Negros Oriental as well as Bogo and Toledo in the province of Cebu and Tagbilaran in Bohol.

In Class C areas, or those not covered by Class A or B, workers in the non-agriculture sector will get an increase of P8 to P33, or P356 a day.

Agricultural workers and those working for establishments employing less than 10 employees under Class C will soon be paid P351 daily. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
