THIRTEEN persons were rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) sub-station in Danao City after the engine of their motor banca conked out.
The passengers of mbca J and J liner were rescued in the waters between Danao City and the Camotes group of islands at 2:45 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2019.
The PCG received the distress call at 10 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28.
The Coast Guard immediately dispatched a rescue team but because of the big waves and strong winds, the personnel went back to shore.
The team went straight to Compostela to get a tug boat, which was used to bring the motor banca to the Ouano Wharf in Mandaue City.
At the Ouano Wharf, personnel of the Coast Guard sub-station in Mandaue and the PCG medical team attended to the rescued passengers. No one was injured.
Based on the PCG’s investigation, the mbca J and J liner’s engine conked out while it was sailing from Olango Island in Lapu-Lapu City to Camotes.
The engine reportedly stopped working when the helm was dislodged from the boat. (AYB / LRC)
