FOUR barangays in two northern Cebu towns that were hit by typhoon Ursula received help from Cebu City officials and volunteers on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2019.

Mayor Edgardo Labella led the distribution of the relief goods. He was assisted by the City Hall department heads, employees and Walk and Talk Friendship Club members.

The villages that received help were Poblacion, Maya and Tapilon in Daanbantayan and Poblacion in Medellin.

Distributed were 300 galvanized iron sheets, 200 sacks of rice, 2,000 tarpaulins, 2,000 one-liter bottled water and 400 packs of sliced bread.

Labella was accompanied by City Administrator Floro Casas Jr., City Attorney Rey Gealon, City Accountant Jerome Ornopia, social welfare head Jeffrey Ibones, disaster prevention chief Harold Alcontin and Sim Romarate.

The Walk and Talk Friendship Club members, led by lawyers Frank Malilong and Alex Monteclar, chipped in money to buy housing materials for residents displaced by Ursula.

Labella told some residents and barangay leaders that the City could not yet give cash assistance as the move would need approval from the City Council.

Last November, the City also sent help to earthquake survivors in Mindanao. (PAC / KAL)
