THE Mabalacat City Government led by Mayor Crisostomo Garbo harvested various vegetables and fruits from its Kabuhayan sa Gulayan project.

Some of the produce from the gulayan in Barangay Sapang Biabas were eggplants, tomatoes, okra, chili, lettuce, spring onions, and watermelons.

Garbo personally joined the harvesting of these produce along with City Agriculture officer Lourdes Balatibat, Barangay Sapang Biabas captain Zoraida Cabuang, Barangay Sapang Biabas medical team and street sweepers, representatives from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro), Department of Agriculture (DA) and Harbest Company.

The gulayan is part of Garbo’s 2020 vision of sustainable development and to eliminate hunger and malnutrition and also to promote cleanliness in the city.

Garbo believes that the agriculture sector has a great potential in improving the economic condition of the local community toward sustainable food supply.

“Huwag natin pabayaan ang nasimulan natin, bagkus e share ‘yung mga natutunan natin sa iba, ito’y naging matagumpay dahil sa inyong lahat na nagtanim at nag bilad sa init ng araw,” the mayor said.

(We must not forsake what we have started, instead share what we learned to others, this became successful because of you who planted and faced the heat of the sun.)

Meanwhile, Harbest Company representative Jojo Reantazo said, “No Filipino should go hungry.”

City Agriculturist Balatibat thanked Garbo and the City Government for their support.

“This is the first time after 25 years in service that all city officials and employees teamed up together for this gulayan project,” she said.
