Labor department warns vs bogus solicitation e-mail

THE Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) on Wednesday, January 1, warned its field personnel as well as the general public against a bogus electronic solicitation letter asking for financial donations for the benefit of orphans and leukemia patients.

In a statement, Dole Secretary Silvestre Bello III said there is no such e-mail asking for monetary donations from their department.

"This e-mail is fake and completely bogus. We encourage everyone to be vigilant and to report similar incidents to us so that we can conduct our own investigation,” Bello said.

"All heads of Dole offices, bureaus, attached agencies, regional offices, and Philippine Overseas Labor Offices are also advised to be vigilant and immediately report similar scams," he added.

The labor chief issued the advisory after receiving information that an e-mail was received by various DOLE regional offices and attached agencies, purportedly from the DOLE Administrative Service, particularly using the e-mail address: administrativeservice@gmail.corn.

Bello said the e-mail, with the subject “Donation request 2019/2020,” states that the Dole seeks a minimum cash donation of $100 supposedly for leukemia patients and orphans. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
