CEBUANO mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Roel Rosauro guns for his first win in ONE Championship as he takes on Indonesian veteran Yohan Mulia Legowo in ONE Championship - “A New Tomorrow” on Jan. 10, 2020 at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.
“I’m a little bit confident. I believe I can beat him,” Rosauro told SunStar Cebu.
Rosauro already has two fights in ONE Championship: both were losses. He made his debut in Asia’s biggest MMA organization on Feb. 23, 2018 and lost to Chinese Li Kai Wen via a first round guillotine choke.
He returned to the cage three months later and lost by unanimous decision to Indonesia’s “The Terminator” Sunoto.
“He’s hungry because it’s been a long time since he has fought,” said Rosauro’s trainer, Yaw-Yan Ardigma Cebu founder and CEO Master Benigno “Ekin” Caniga.
The 31-year-old Rosauro hasn’t fought in the MMA since losing to Sunoto in 2018. He, however, has been honing his ground game by competing in the Brazilian jiu-jitsu tournaments.
Despite his much improved ground game, Caniga wants his ward to fight with his strength.
“He’s (Legowo) a grappler but we won’t play his game. Our game plan is to beat him in striking,” said Caniga.
The 39-year-old Legowo is a veteran in the organization. He has been fighting under the ONE Championship banner since 2014. He, however, is on a slump, losing his last four contests.
Legowo is coming off a first round stoppage defeat to Phoe Thaw last March 8, 2019.
Rosauro is listed at 4-3, while Legowo is 8-8.
The MMA and Muay Thai event is headlined by a title defense of Rodtang Jitmuangnon of his Muay Thai flyweight belt against Jonathan Haaggerty. (EKA)
