IN A bid to support athletes in their respective sports and host the annual Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (Caraa) sports meet, Benguet is eyeing P100 million for the installation of tartan tracks at the Wangal Sports Complex.
Benguet Governor Melchor Diclas said the province needs P100 million for the tartan track and seeks for the completion of the multipurpose sports complex in Wangal, La Trinidad and vowed t further support athletes competing in local, national and international events by completing the sports facility to help boost their skills and development.
Dean Mark Monang, Benguet sports coordinator, said province officials need to work hand-in-hand to get funding for the tartan tracks.
“The first priority is to finish the multi-purpose gym for it to be fully furnished and utilized by all. And the next phase is the tartan of track oval,” said Monang.
He added that one of the priority is the improvement of the gymnasium including its bleachers with P5 million programmed this year and another is the completion of fences in the oval.
Once these projects are completed, Monang said they will set their sight on completing the tartan tracks which is one of the requirements by the Department of Education when hosting Caraa.
Caraa is a sports meet that brings together thousands of student athletes and sports officials across the region competing in various team and individual events.
To recall, it was during the administration of then Governor and the late Congressman Nestor Fongwan Sr. the province when the sports complex and the 8,000 multi – purpose gym was constructed funded from their cash incentives from the Seal of Good Local Governance by the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
