IS UNIVERSITY of Cebu (UC) bringing back a familiar face to fill the vacant head coaching position of the Webmasters’ collegiate basketball squad?

It certainly appears that way as lawyer Kern Sesante is now being strongly considered to be the team’s next head coach after the school parted ways with multi-titled head coach Yayoy Alcoseba late last month.

None other than UC team manager, Atty. Baldomero Estenzo, confirmed this development.

“He is a good role model for the players. He was our captain ball before and he was a top placer in the Customs Board Examination and a lawyer who finished his law course in UC,” said Estenzo.

Sesante last held the reins of the team in 2016 before he was replaced by Alcoseba, who then proceeded to steer the Webmasters to a second-place finish and two Final Four appearances.

But with UC wanting to go in a new direction after the Webmasters failed to advance past the semifinals this past Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) season, it appears that Sesante is poised to make a return.

Estenzo also disclosed that all spots on the squad are up for grabs, which means there would be no free passes, not even to players who were on the team last season.

Veteran guard Paul Galinato is well aware of this decree and is already eager to prove his worth to the team’s new head coach.

“I’m very eager to earn a spot in the team because I want to learn new things from our new coach. It will be a new system of basketball and I am willing to play for the team and start a new chapter of UC basketball,” said the left-handed sharpshooter. (JNP)
