EVEN though the moth knows that it is dangerous to fly close to a lighted candle, it will continue to do so.
Why continue to sell products that we all know are harmful and hazardous to people? The Department of Trade and Industry should review all products that are considered detrimental to the health of its citizens and should ban the production of these products that are unfit for human consumption and use.
Pyrotechnics and fireworks ushered us to New Year with a bang. The sale of fireworks has become a lucrative business. Reports of serious injuries do not deter people from patronizing it.
Despite the Executive Order that bans fireworks except in designated areas, some erring citizens of this country chose to celebrate Christmas Eve with explosive fireworks in the subdivision where I live. My son’s sports vehicle now has a cracked windshield and a big hole beneath the same windshield as a result of fireworks that exploded right on top of it. The neighbor promised to pay for the damages. I thanked God none of my grandchildren who opted to stay indoors were injured. Bad weather that day saved my neighbors as well from getting hurt.
A doctor interviewed on television revealed that a human body’s chemistry does not mix well with alcohol. Teenagers are now among the alcoholics. Given that information, why are we allowing distillery and brewery plants to produce and sell products containing alcohol?
Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) is bad and yet the Food and Drug Administration has done nothing to remove MSG from the list of ingredients in food products. Some restaurants abroad no longer use MSG in their dishes. In fact, “NO MSG” is a marketing strategy.
Vaping is just as hazardous to our health as cigarettes are. They ban the sale and the use of vapes in public places. Have we banned the importation of it? Ban the production of cigarettes as well. If these are not made available in the market, there will be no consumers.
This government kept increasing the excise tax of cigarettes thus making it very expensive. Has it discouraged smokers? Negotiating with manufacturers: “Okay, we will allow you to continue manufacturing but we will increase the taxes” is not helping the situation.
Let’s also ban smoking in casinos. My mother and uncle and several others died of lung cancer. They were all smokers or exposed to second-hand smoke. How many more will die before we get serious about the health hazard of cigarettes?
