Coops sign deal to supply water in Oro upland areas

A JOINT venture agreement was signed on Thursday, January 2, 2020 between the Mindanao Cooperatives Water Service Federations (MCWS) and the Kyogojo Engineering Service Coop to allow the latter to upgrade and expand its water production and distribution services to some upland areas in Cagayan de Oro City.

Under the agreement, the MCWS will provide funds to upgrade and expand the water distribution service of Kyogojo which is intended to benefit the residents of Barangays Lumbia, Mambuaya, Taguanao, Baikingon and Gango in Libona, Bukidnon.

"Ang katuyoan sa joint venture is, una ang Kyogojo has the technical knowledge and expertise sa pag-put up og water system. On the other hand, MCWS has the financial capacity to back up the investment kay dako kaayo ang kinahanglan nga investment para magpatubig og mga areas," Kyogojo chairman Neil Bryan Oraiz said.

(Kyogojo has the technical knowledge and expertise in building a water system. On the other hand, MCWS has the financial capacity to back up a huge investment because a large sum of it is needed in those areas.)

Oraiz added they are also willing to operate a water supply system to other rural barangays.

MCWS vice president for finance Isagani Daba said the MCWS has authorized capitalization of P1 billion for the project.

"Ang among damgo lugar nga unta ang public utilities like tubig mas maayo unta og panag-iyahon og dumalahon sa mga konsumidor," Daba said.

(Our wish is that there would public utilities such as water for consumers to have a direct access to.)

He also said the joint venture agreement with Kyogojo has minimal to no implication to the operation of the Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD).

Daba added that during the courtesy call with City Mayor Oscar Moreno in 2018, the mayor encouraged the group to prioritize areas where the services of the COWD are needed.

"Iyang gipaabot kanamo nga mas maayo unta og maabagan ang Cagayan de Oro Water District nga masuplayan og panubig labi na kining mga barangay nga naa sa mga kadaplinan, lisod abton og tubig. Mao nang tumong gyud niining Joint Venture Agreement," Daba said.

(The mayor hoped that we would able to help the Cagayan de Oro Water District reach villages that are on the fringes who have little access to water. This is the purpose of this Joint Venture Agreement.)
