Cop impostor arrested in Bukidnon

A MAN who posed as a police officer to extort money from market vendors at the fish landing area in Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City was arrested by police in a hot pursuit operation on Friday, January 3, in Baungon, Bukidon.

Authorities revealed the suspect, identified as Glenn Calang, 35, and a resident of Barangay Bayabas, Cagayan de Oro City was a notorious police impersonator in the city and nearby towns.

Calang’s face went viral online after he was caught on camera allegedly extorting money and threatening vendors with a gun at the fish landing srea and vegetable section of Westbound Terminal, Barangay Bulua on Wednesday, January 1.

Irene Floro, Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce president and head of the Cagayan de Oro Fish Wholesalers Association, appealed for the public’s help on Facebook to identify the person who has been going around the market asking vendors for money.

The post has garnered over 1,000 reactions and has been shared more than 4,000 times.

Calang was finally arrested following a joint operation by the Regional Intelligence Division, the different units of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) and Baungon town police.

Cocpo Spokesperson Major Ivan Viñas said the suspect had previous cases such as illegal drugs possession and robbery extortion, among others.

He will likely be charged with extortion and usurpation of authority for impersonating a police officer.
