Over P2-M properties damaged in 2 fire incidents

OVER P2 million worth of properties went up in smoke in two separate fire incidents in the provinces of Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Sunday, January 5.

Police Major Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the first fire incident happened around 8:30 a.m. Saturday, January 4, in the village of Disud, Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte.

Galvez said the fire razed two houses made of light materials owned by Ursula Baunillo, 80, and her grandchild, Ronette Dabalos, 24.

Galvez said investigation showed the fire started from the kitchen of Baunillo that spread when she left to fetch firewood while cooking for breakfast.

The fire was contained around 9:30 a.m. and the estimated worth of property damage was placed at P14,000.

The second fire incident broke out around 3:02 p.m. on the same day in the village of Sudlon, Molave, Zamboanga del Sur.

Galvez said the fire have damaged the automobile repair shop and its equipment owned by Eduardo Pielago, 61. Cars of Peilago’s clients were also damaged.

Galvez said investigation showed the fire started near the electric post of the Zamboanga del Sur Electric Cooperative and spread towards the repair shop.

She said the fire was contained around 3:30 p.m. and the estimated worth of property damaged was placed at P2 million. (SunStar Zamboanga)
