Sinulog Fiesta Fair to open on Jan. 16

TAKING advantage of the large number of people expected to show up for Sinulog festivities, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) 7 will launch the Sinulog Fiesta Fair 2020 on Jan 16, 2020.

Marivic Aguilar, DTI Cebu provincial office chief for small and medium enterprise development division, said selected micro enterprises enrolled under DTI’s One Town, One Product PH and Kapatid Mentor ME programs will participate in the 10-day fair.

“They are new or beginner sellers in trade fairs and bazaars who need this type of market exposure and experience,” she said.

Last year’s fair lasted 18 days after a six-day extension with 96 exhibitors and enterprises participating.

“It generated P10.2 in million sales. For 2020, however, we expect the figures to be much smaller with fewer booths at 34, a smaller area and fewer number of days which will run for 11 days,” she said.

The fair will be held at the SM City Cebu Atrium.

Also participating are beneficiaries of DTI’s project with the Philippine Commission on Women, the GREAT Women Project 2 featuring micro, small and medium enterprises with cacao-based and wearable and home style products.

The fair will offer gifts, decors and houseware products, wearables/fashion accessories, processed food and various souvenir items.

In Cebu City, those who intend to sell on Jan. 18 and 19 have three days to register at the Market Authority Office inside the Bayanihan Bldg. across the City Hall.

The registration started last Dec. 15, 2019 and will close on Thursday, Jan. 9.

Registered vendors can start selling at 6 p.m. on Jan. 18.

Market Administrator Jonil Matuguina said 150 vendors were registered as of Sunday, Jan. 5.

To register, vendors have to submit two 2 x 2 photos, a valid ID, a copy of payment of a special permit that must be paid at the City Treasurer’s Office and an accomplished form that will be provided by the market office.

Fees range between P40 and P750, depending on the size of the area and the products that will be sold.

Matuguina said vending will not be allowed within the holy procession and carousel routes on Jan. 18 and 19, respectively, and within a 100-meter radius from the Basilica del Sto. Niño.

Matuguina said the Prevention, Restoration, Order, Beautification, and Enhancement team will designate vending areas.

Meanwhile, Matuguina said his office will strictly monitor the products that will be sold, adding that alcoholic drinks and lewd articles are not allowed.

He also encouraged vendors not to use single-use plastics to minimize garbage. (JOB, JJL)
