2 hospitals in Mandaue ‘to provide’ charity services

MANDAUE City Mayor Jonas Cortes has tapped the Chong Hua Hospital and the University of Cebu-Medical Center (UCMed) to give discounts and provide free services to residents as part of their corporate social responsibility program.

He said he wanted the hospitals to focus on programs that would make a difference to the public.

After tying up with Chong Hua and UCMed, Cortes said he encouraged both institutions to provide charity services to the less fortunate residents of the city.

He said the program will prioritize indigents.

“They just need to provide documents to prove that they are residents of the city like a certification from the barangay or city so they can avail themselves of the program,” Cortes said in Cebuano.

The mayor’s chief of staff and executive secretary, Eddu Ybañez, said the hospitals’ Orthopedics and Ob-gyne departments have confirmed their participation in the program.

Ybañez said the City Council and the committee on health headed by City Councilor Nerissa Soon-Ruiz are still drafting the memorandum of agreement.

Cortes announced his plan to seek the hospitals’ assistance during his State of the City Address last October.

Chong Hua and UCMed had agreed to his proposal, the mayor said.

“Once the council approves and ratifies the agreement, then the program can be implemented,” he said in Cebuano. (KFD)
