Lakas-Kampi-CMD official denies defection (5:22 p.m.)

MANILA -- A Lakas-Kampi-CMD official dismissed reports that several members of the ruling party are transferring to other political groups.

Lakas-Kampi Vice President for membership and recruitment Prospero Pichay said on Tuesday that their party “has remained intact.”

“These are unfounded news,” he said about alleged exodus of several members of Lakas-Kampi-CMD.

Even the officials of the party were rumored to be jumping ship but Pichay was quick to refute it.

“People would text me also, they’ve been texting around that myself and (Lakas President and Kampi Chairman) Secretary Ronaldo Puno has moved over to some presidential candidate, again, it’s not true,” he added.

The administration party official said that defection reports are only part of the political strategy of other parties.

“This is part of their campaigns—to confuse our people. But our people, even now as we speak, all the governors of ARMM (Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao) are in my office waiting for me and they are very much in control of their provinces and they are very much into the campaign of our party,” he said.
