Cordillera police welcome recruitment of 17,000

IN A bid to close the gap of police-to-population ratio to within ideal limits set by law, the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Cordillera is hoping to get additional force with the hiring of at least 17,000 cops nationwide.

Police Major Carolina Lacuata, PRO-Cordillera public information officer, said the recruitment will be open for all able-bodied Filipino, aged 21 to 30 years old who want to join the police service.

"In the past recruitments, there were times where PRO-COR were assigned with 600 new police recruits, while there were also times that we were assigned with 150 which varies, so it would depend on the national headquarters quota on how many would be assigned to our region," Lacuata said.

The 2020 recruitment was announced by the National Police Commission (Napolcom) and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), authorizing the Philippine National Police (PNP) to fill up the 17,000 vacancies under its recruitment program for this year.

The national headquarters of the PNP said the number includes the 10,000 annual regular recruitment quota and 7,000 additional quota to replace retired, deceased, dismissed, absent without leave, and other separated personnel.
