CA-Mindanao Station to hold office at City Hall

THE Court of Appeals (CA)-Mindanao Station will soon leave the YMCA building on Julio-Pacana Streets, Cagayan de Oro City and will temporarily hold office at the City Hall's tourism hall, even if YMCA management assured that the building is safe after successive tremors hit the city in 2019.

City Administrator Teddy Sabuga-a said Mayor Oscar Moreno has approved the CA's request to allow them to occupy the tourism hall after the YMCA building showed cracks due to earthquakes.

Sabuga-a said the tourism hall is now under renovation and will be available for use next week.

The tourism hall will hold offices of the CA justices.

In November 2019, the CA was forced to suspend its operations and was advised to vacate the building. The following month, the YMCA released a statement showing findings of two private engineers that the building only sustained minor cracks.

Meanwhile, Sabuga-a said the City Hall is also fast-tracking the construction of a multi-story building that will rise on a six-hectare lot in Indahag and which will house the CA.

It is expected to be completed in the last quarter of 2020.

The CA-Mindanao Station handles cases from the 9th to 12th Judicial Regions, including the CA Station in Visayas located in Cebu City. They were established by virtue of Republic Act 8246.
