THE Davao City Government generated more than P100,000 since the pay parking on some streets was implemented on the first week of January.

On Thursday, January 2, the City Government through City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) implemented the Public Pay Parking Zones, wherein parking on the streets of San Pedro, Ilustre, Pelayo, Iñigo, Villa Abrille, Monteverde, and Duterte will be charged.

City Treasurer's Office (CTO) officer-in-charge Lawrence Bantiding told reporters on Monday, January 6, that the city generated an estimated P121,000 on the first three days of the implementation. This is an average of around P40,000 per day.

Bantinding said they projected that they will be able to collect P54,000 per day from the initially identified areas. However, since the ordinance was only implemented recently, they were not able to hit their target collection. Last week's rainy weather condition also led to a fewer collection.

The parking zone, implemented at 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., from Monday to Saturday, have different rates per vehicle type.

Rates for trucks and buses will be P100 for the first two hours and P20 for succeeding hours; P20 for light vehicles for the first two hours and P10 for succeeding hours; motorcycles will be P5 parking fee for first two hours and P1 for succeeding hours; and P2 for bicycles during the first two hours and P1 for the succeeding hours.

CTTMO head Dionisio Abude said in a previous report that the city is expected to generate more than P1 million a month with the implementation of the pay parking zone. They are currently finalizing the markings and racks to be used in the implementation.

Bantiding, meanwhile, said 14 CTO personnel stationed in seven parking areas are deployed to assist some CTTMO personnel in the implementation.

He said the CTO personnel will be the ones to collect the parking fee.

"Nagbutang ta og tawo didtoa para (We deployed personnel there). There is no need for the motorist to visit our office and pay their parking fee," Bantiding said.

The city treasurer said some complaints and other concerns were raised by motorists who were not aware of the implementation.

However, Bantiding said CTO personnel were already instructed to let the motorists understand of the existing city traffic code, which gives authority for the parking zone collection.
