DAVAO City's Southeast Asian (Sea) Games 2019 soft tennis gold medalist Mark Anthony Alcoseba captured his first two titles in 2020 but this time in his first sport, tennis, at the close of the PPS-PEPP Fr. Fernando Suarez Cup at the Philam Tennis Club in Quezon City over the weekend.

The 32-year-old Alcoseba and long-time partner Vicente Elberto Anasta of Negros Occidental emerged men's doubles champion.

Alcoseba-Anasta struggled at the start and rallied late in the deciding set to eke out a 3-6, 6-3, 10-8 win over the tandem of Jordan Cimafranca of Lanao del Sur and Alberto Villamor of Manila in their titular showdown.

"First set napildi mi, siguro nagpadala mi sa emotion kasi sabi nga nila umpire decision kaya second set nag-try gyod me na mag umpisa ulit, wag magpadala at mag-recover hangtod wala pa nahuman ang game laban lang ng laban." Alcoseba told SunStar Davao via Facebook on January 6, adding that it was important for them to communicate with each other well on their strategies.

(We lost the first set as we allowed our emotions get in the way that's why we really tried to start again in the second set and to recover as long as the match is still ongoing)

Alcoseba, who came home to spend his Christmas and New Year's Day vacation with his family, said he has been pairing up with Anasta since 2013 and both also annexed doubles crowns in Lanao National Open, Olivarez National Tennis Open, Surigao Tennis Open, Cainta National Open, General Santos National Open and Lucena National Tennis Open.

The Dabawenyo later combined forces with Rollie Anasta to defeat Teddy Danao and Raymond Diaz, 8-5, to clinch the 30 years old division title in the Unified Tennis Philippines-sanctioned meet.

He also said training will soon start for the national soft tennis team as they will compete in the Asian Championship this year. (With PR)
