MODERN transportation for Dabawenyos is now within grasp after Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio bared that the City Government of Davao is releasing P250 million from its local funds this year for the implementation of the interim phase of the High-Priority Bus System.

In her message Monday, January 6, during the Association of Regional Executives of National Agencies (Arena) Davao flag ceremony at People's Park, Davao City, Duterte-Carpio reiterated the City's effort in pursuing the implementation of their plans and programs under the Byaheng Do30 Agenda.

"Among other big-ticket plans and projects, we are aggressively pushing for the implementation of the interim phase of the High-Priority Bus System," she said.

HPBS is one of the projects the City Government is pushing to modernize the transportation system of the city and address the growing need for the mass transit system to solve traffic congestion, giving commuters a more convenient and comfortable ride going to their destination.

"To spur this, the City Government of Davao is releasing P250 million from its local funds this year. We hope to be able to fully implement the Davao City Transport Modernization Project with the support and cooperation of everyone," Duterte-Carpio said.

The fund was approved by the City Council, which was sourced from the 2019 Supplemental Budget (SB) 1 and SB 2 of 2019. It will be used for financial assistance to compensate for more than 7,000 public utility jeepney (PUJs) operators and drivers who will be affected once the HPBS project will take off.

Last year, Davao City assistant administrator Tristan Dwight Domingo said the initial implementation of the HPBS through the Davao Integrated Bus System (Dibs) is projected to be implemented by the first semester of 2020.
