RELOCATION of vendors at the city market’s mini park is definite.
Baguio City Councilor Philian Weygan-Allan said the relocation of the vendors at the lechonan section and those at the market’s mini park is needed.
Allan said sites for relocation are set at the Rillera Building and block market but vendors are resisting.
Over 4,000 vendors at the public market will be affected by an eventual redevelopment this year.
Allan said market plans will steer its development with a new zoning, design and loading and unloading areas aimed to ease congestion in the area.
The work will be undertaken by the local government but is open to partner with the existing market cooperatives.
Stall owners waiting for the development of the market for them to have bigger stalls and a better system to operate was discussed including their fear of being displaced in the area.
Allan assured the slots for all legitimate vendors but stressed weeding out of multiple slot holders will done.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong is keen on setting into place the long delayed development of the city market, after announcing moves to halt talks with Uniwide.
Uniwide Sales and Realty Corporation has failed to modernize the space despite a contract with the city and has been embroiled in a legal war between the city and market stakeholders.
Uniwide has been deemed by the Securities and Exchange Commission to be incapable of finances, thus, making it unfit to implement the city project but the city has yet to legally rescind the contract.
Allan said vendors at the lechonan section is scheduled to dialog with city officials this week.
