OVER 1,400 barangay frontline services workers from the towns of San Francisco, Tudela, Poro and Pilar, Camotes Island received bigger cash incentives promised to them by the Cebu Provincial Government.
Governor Gwendolyn Garcia spearheaded the distribution of financial incentives for tanods, health workers, nutrition scholars, daycare workers and animal health aides on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at the Tudela Evacuation Center.
“I may be about to lose my voice but I will continue to serve the people of Camotes,” she said in a speech.
Workers in the island towns of San Francisco, Pilar, Poro and Tudela were told not to come to mainland Cebu anymore for the first barangay workers’ general assembly held on December 18, 2019, at the Minglanilla Sports Complex to save on travel expenses.
Their cash incentives and uniforms were distributed instead by cashiers of the Provincial Treasurer’s Office and personnel of the Provincial Health Office who went to Tudela.
Barangay workers donned their uniforms during the program.
While they may have differed in colors, all the uniforms had the logos of their respective towns on the left chest area along with the words “Government Working for Emergency Network.”
The cash incentive for health workers, nutrition scholars, barangay animal health aides and daycare volunteers was worth P4,000. This is a 66.66 percent increase from the P2,400 that they used to get from Capitol.
Barangay tanods, on the other hand, received P3,000 a month, or a 100 percent increase from the current incentive of P1,500.
All qualified barangay workers in the municipalities and component cities in the province received the cash incentives.
Those from the cities of Lapu-Lapu and Cebu were not qualified because they belong to independent, highly urbanized cities.
The cash incentives and uniforms, though, were not the only “gifts” the islanders received Tuesday afternoon.
Garcia announced that the Capitol will extend P5 million worth of infrastructure projects for Tudela, Pilar and Poro for having their mayors and vice mayors present during the activity.
“For those who are not here (officials of San Francisco), better luck next time. Poro, Pilar and Tudela, you are all aware that our 2020 annual budget will focus on infrastructure projects... Therefore, the Capitol will allocate P5 million worth of projects to these three towns,” she said in a mix of English and Cebuano. (RTF)
