Lack of internet bogs down services at PSA

THE Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) office on Colon St. in downtown Cebu City has suspended indefinitely the express processing of any civil registry documents due to network service provider problems.

According to PSA spokesman Noel Rafols, the connectivity problem started on Monday, Jan. 6, 2020.

As a result, their CRS Serbilis Outlet at the Gaisano Capital Bldg. cannot process any request for civil registry documents like birth, marriage, death certificates and certificate of no marriage, he said.

He said they still don’t know when they’ll get their internet connection back.

The CRS Serbilis Outlet processes walk-in requests for civil registry documents that are processed and released on the same day.

Rafols clarified that the public can still visit their local civil registrars to request the documents but these won’t be released on the same day.

Additional cost

Close to 50 local civil registrars in the region already have Batch Request Entry Systems (Breqs), he added.

Rafols said business centers in SM malls also have Breqs to process PSA certificates but the releasing will take time.

He said requesting PSA certificates through local government units (LGUs) and business centers will have additional cost since it is the LGU or the service provider that will pick up the batch at the PSA office.

The public can also request any of the PSA certificates through its online portal at https://nsohelpline.ph/. The releasing of the certificate will not be on the same day.

Rafols advised the public to follow the Facebook page of PSA 7 at https://www.facebook.com/PSA07GOVPH/ for updates on the operation of the CRS Serbilis Outlet at Gaisano Capital. (HBL / MGB)
