Negros Occidental social welfare head retires

THE head of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) of the provincial government of Negros Occidental has availed of the optional retirement.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson on Monday, January 6 confirmed the retirement of Elena Serenias.

Serenias said she has been on leave and her retirement will be effective end of this month. She is now 62 years old.

Serenias said that she will attend to her business and has been due to go to the United States of America.

Lacson also did not cite any reason given by Serenias except the fact that she has already done her work in government.

The governor pointed out that the resignation of the former department head is effective January 2020.

“As far as I know, she has not yet reached the compulsory retirement age mandated by Republic Act 8291 or the Government Service Insurance System Act of 1997,” Lacson said.

He added that he considers the decision of Serenias as optional retirement. Serenias was appointed by former governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. as PSWDO head in 2016. She was previously the head of the City Social Welfare and Development Office of Cadiz City.
