THE Consolacion Sarok Weavers advanced to the semifinals of the 1st Mayor Irish Gestopa Cup Inter Town Invitational after defeating the Borbon A & B Selection, 93-80, in Catmon on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020.
Lyceum Baby Pirates star Gyle Patrick Montano flaunted his versatility as he piled up 17 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists to help Consolacion complete a 3-0 sweep of the elimination round to advance to the semifinal stage on Jan. 24.
John Lloyd Pepito added 14 points, six assists and a whopping seven steals while Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats guard JC Escalona piled up 13 points, six boards and eight dimes.
Three more scored in double-figures showing off the team’s tremendous depth with Jessie Bathan putting in 10 and John Dalumpines and Keith Padayogdog scoring 10 points apiece.
Consolacion led by just two, 67-65, after three periods, but found their second wind in the fourth to pull away from Borbon and pull off the victory.
The tournament is organized by the Catmon Sports Commission led by Catmon Mayor Irish B. Gestopa. Also assisting are councilors Joe Barte, Armid Oyas, and SK Federation President Haley Pupa. Also composing the organizing committee are George N. Molina, Ben Ashley S. Rebuyas, Mysie J. Oling, Lynneth Sangalang, Raymund Branzuela and police chief Jose Dante Talandron. (JNP)
