THE Department of Health (DOH)-Northern Mindanao is hoping to reach the 95 percent target in the second round of the "Sabayang Patak Kontra Polio," which is scheduled on January 20 to February 2.

Another batch of children five years old and below will get the vaccination in the region.

During the first round of the campaign, the DOH-Northern Mindanao only covered 94.7 percent of its target coverage, failing to immunize around 30,000 children.

"Karon, we are trying our best to go beyond. Kung pwede pa more than 95 percent," Assistant Regional Director Dr. Dave Mendoza said.

The failure to reach the 95 percent target, according to Mendoza, is due to some parents who do not want their children to be vaccinated.

He also said there are some children who got their vaccination in another area and not from where they lived.

"We are now trying to review the coverage sa immunization. For the past five years, are these areas nga medyo wala kaabot sa ilang target, naa bay rason nga dili gyud nila maabot and we are now looking into that one," Mendoza said.

"Based on history, during sa mga previous national immunization days, sa first round dili namo ma reach, sa second round nakahabol," he added.
