WANTING to get a chunk of the Sinulog market, a six-story hotel in Cebu City is offering Cebuanos a strategic location to witness the city’s biggest Sinulog grand parade.

Rublin Hotel, located on Gov. M. Roa St., Capitol Site, has 32 rooms composed of standard, deluxe, suite and family rooms.

At present, the hotel enjoys a 50 percent occupancy level and the hotel management is marketing aggressively to increase its bookings, said Rublin Hotel chief executive officer Ruben Ong.

“We want to boost that (occupancy level) up,” he said.

The hotel which was formally inaugurated on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2020, is facing stiff competition amid the new players in the hospitality segment but Ong said it is faring well so far, especially with the Sinulog season approaching.

Chinese, Koreans, Japanese, Europeans, Americans and Australians are among its foreign guests. Ong added they also have local guests from the neighboring Visayas and Mindanao areas.

With the hotel’s competitive rates, Ong is confident that the hotel will be fully occupied as the Sinulog festival nears. Its room rates range from P1,200 to P2,800 a night.

Tourism stands to be one of Cebu’s economic pillars in 2019.

Shahlimar Tamano, regional director of the Department of Tourism in Central Visayas, said the airport modernization has brought about several benefits to tourism, as industry players in the hospitality business continued to expand.

“It (2019) was very good. Cebu will still be the leader in the next two to three years,” he said.

Backed by the continuous expansion of hotels and resorts, Tamano said Cebu will continue to attract tourists from different parts of the world. (JOB)
