2-hectare forest razed in Tuba

A WEEK after the town welcomed the New Year, some two hectares of land in Tuba, Benguet were razed in a forest fire Tuesday afternoon, January 7.

Tuba police said the forest fire started in Sitio Besong, Mt. Sto Tomas, in Poblacion.

The Tuba Fire Station, led by Fire Marshall Senior Inspector Jesus Yango, together with Baguio Fire Station, Tuba Municipal Police Station, Baguio Water District and barangay officials responded to the incident.

The forest fire was declared out by the Bureau of Fire Protection at 4:25 p.m.

No person was reported injured in the incident.

Yango said the cause of the fire is still being determined as of Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, forest ranger Jamsy Batan of the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office in Baguio urged stakeholders to avoid activities that may lead to causing forest fire, such as indiscriminate throwing of cigarette butts and playing with matches. (With Jean Nicole Cortes)
