Cabinet officials meet for Baguio rehab

TOP officials of the country will convene to settle concerns on the rehabilitation of Baguio City.

Department of Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, Department of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Roy Cimatu, Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año and Representative Marisol Aragones, chairperson of the house committee on tourism, will be in the city to facilitate the meeting on Friday, January 10.

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong will present development prospects with Representative Mark Go to confer with officials on how to go about rehabilitation plans for the city.

The comprehensive land use plan, as well as the carrying capacity of the city will be presented by Director Milagros Rimando of the National Economic and Development Authority.

During the meeting, the Baguio-La Trinidad-Itogon-Sablan-Tuba and Tublay (Blistt) sustainable infrastructure development plan and situational analysis will also be presented to the officials.

The officials will then visit Burnham, Mines View and Wright Park, as well as the sanitary landfill at Irisan and the City Sewage treatment plant and the Balili River.

Earlier, Magalong called on the residents to prepare for the planned rehabilitation of the country's summer capital.

Magalong said the rehabilitation is a result of consultation meetings pushed by the need to rehabilitate the city and its environment.

But Magalong clarified and assured that no closure will be done during the rehabilitation of the city since Baguio has a different situation.

Puyat earlier confirmed that Baguio City is next in line for government rehabilitation after the successful rehabilitation of Boracay Island and the ongoing efforts being done in Palawan and other beach destinations in the Philippines.
