Pacete: Waking up in 2020

ONE morning we woke up with a blank mind knowing absolutely nothing of our present status, of the recent past and what’s going to happen in the next thirty minutes. That is what we call “enzyme power failure”! Our neurotransmitters are not able to allow us to see, hear, think, create and feel good.

There was that feeling of drowsiness and our systems were just lazy to function. Like a programmed android, we settled for a cup of brewed coffee as our spark plug then that caffeine kick started to heat up our motor skills. Ah, we are just at home and it is now the middle of the day ... Year 2020.

Things could always work that way and you can now remember that you attended three to four New Year’s Eve parties featuring parades of “lechon baboy” and you were almost drowned in a bath tub of alcohol that almost diluted your kidney, liver, pancreas and gall bladder. Your college degree fails to remind you that alcohol sucks. Aaargh!

There are even husbands who spent their New Year’s Eve away from home and they woke up with blurred vision. There were kittens on the bed but that could be another fiction. They were just in the hotel to avoid the wrath of their wives who have not received Christmas gifts from them. Confused husbands can only blame themselves and say, “From the ashes of my failure shall rise the empire of my success.”

In another scenario, there is also the case of husband and wife who woke up early to attend the first morning mass. In the middle of their holy meditation they have just realized that they have not given the December salary and Christmas bonus of their maid and laundry woman. In the last two weeks, both of them were busy attending Christmas parties loaded with exchanging of gifts.

Our public officials (as expected) woke up fascinated by time and found out that they are trapped in it with zillion things to be done for their constituents as promised in the previous election. Time flies ... 2020, next year is 2021 and there will be presidential and local elections in 2022. In the world of politics, time is a circle bending back on itself, and those who are in politics are doomed to repeat events over and over again.

Politicians are frigging geniuses and sometimes they believe too much in themselves that they can always win in a world where there is no such thing as the future. For the politicians with programs that are still works in progress, they consider that time is the line that terminates sooner than expected both in reality and in the mind.

Waking up in 2020 could simply mean that we have to abide always in God’s plan of salvation. Cheers! As Msgr. Felix Pasquin said, “Let us enter this grace-filled 2020 by fully entrusting ourselves in the kindness of Almighty God. “That simply goes to show if God is with us ... to be what we are, and to become what we are capable of becoming, is the only end of life. Is there something else? Let us wait how 2020 would look like.
