Pangan: Starting the decade right

IT'S the start of the year, of the decade. For some, it is the start of implementing long-planned projects and reviewing those in progress. Others, most of us at least, look back at things pending in 2019 but need to be done in this brand-new year 2020.

On a larger scale, the government relies heavily on a good-enacted budget to finance its year-long operations. Its economy depends largely on the priority expenditures for infrastructure and other relevant projects.

As has been reported earlier, hopes are high and rosy for 2020. Since all of us start on a new slate, our programs are ready to take off and accelerate.

Large businesses take on large projects as conglomerates like SM Prime Holdings and the Ramon Ang-led enterprises are eager to take part in the national government's various menus on infrastructure and socio-economic activities.

The public-private partnerships should be sustained so as to reap big results. The government needs all the help the private sector can offer. Then there are the overseas development assistance packages which we can factor in our development schemes. But let us not be involved deeply into foreign fundings if we can manage domestically.

We should not be complacent in the face of a major upheaval in the Middle East.

The recent US operation that resulted in the killing of a very revered top Iranian general should alert our authorities over the probable retaliation of oil-rich Iran and its violence-oriented leadership. The volatile situation in Iran (and its allies) should be closely watched by our leaders especially our feisty President. We could not afford another world war, do we?

There is now a growing need to hire employees with great potentials rather than the loan of experience in their CVs.

More often, these employees with high potentials end up as great hires and surpass those who have lengthy experience, if the former are properly motivated.

Now, the labor market is filled with new hires of great potentials, including those who have finished the K-12 programs.
