Mexico town gives P1.7M to cleanest barangays

THE town of Mexico in Pampanga has honored the winners of its "Cleanest and Greenest Barangay Challenge 2019" with cash prizes totaling to P1.7 million, as local executives urged barangay officials to continuously strive to promote environment friendly practices in the local level.

The Municipal Government of Mexico has been hosting the competition to encourage barangays and their residents to adapt environment friendly practices and ensure clean surroundings in their respective barangays.

The competition also encourages greening activities tree planting and beautification of public spaces.

The winners were awarded after the flag raising ceremony recently.

Mayor Teddy Tumang, Municipal Council members Lourdes Sicat, Romeo Payabyab, Perry Dizon, and Trina Guevarra presented the cash prizes to the winners in the small, medium and large scale categories. The winners received cash prizes and plaques.

The evaluation took place from January to December 2019 and was headed by Municipal Environment and Natural Resources officer Ponciano Capulong, Municipal Agriculturist Lauly Pineda and Sanitary Inspector Rolando Manalang.

Winners of the small-scale category include Barangay San Carlos at fifth place (P50,000), Barangay Sabanilla at fourth place (P75,000), Barangay Gandus at third place (P00,000), Barangay Pangatlan at second place (P150,000) and Barangay Suclaban at first place (P200,000).

Barangay San Pablo (P200,000) won first place in the medium category, while Barangays Culubasa (Php50,000), Sta. Maria (P75,000), Divisoria (P100,000) and Camuning (P150,000) were ranked from fifth to second place, respectively.

Large category winners include Barangays Lagundi (P50,000), San Antonio (P75,000), Sto. Domingo (P100,000) and Sto. Cristo (P150,000), which were ranked from fifth to second place, respectively. Baranagay Tangle won first place and received P200,000.

Consolation prizes of P10,000 each were given to Barangays Balas, San Roque, Eden, Buenavista, Sapang Maisac, Acli, Dolores Piring, San Lorenzo, San Vicente and San Miguel.

Tumang said he hopes the barangays will continuously strive to become the best examples of clean and green communities.
