Japan’s Yomiuri Giants to hold baseball camp

SIX members of the Yomiuri Giants professional baseball team from Japan, including three coaches, two staff and one former player, are arriving today to spearhead the Mindanao Youth Baseball Camp 2020 that expects over 300 participants from 20 teams on Saturday, January 11, at the Davao City National High School.

Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International School (PNJKIS) president Ines P. Mallari bared this during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum held at The Annex of SM City Davao yesterday, January 9.

She said the Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica)-sponsored activity is being held in cooperation with the PNJKIS, Mindanao Kokusai Daigaku and Department of Education (Deped) Davao City Division.

Mallari said, “Tanang participants sa among Davao City Baseball Cup mu-participate sa sports clinic. Ang Yomiuri Giants isa sa mga pinakasikat na professional baseball teams sa Japan (All participants in our Davao City Baseball Cup will also join the clinic. The Yomiuri Giants is one of the most popular professional baseball teams in Japan).”

She also said that teams from as far as Agusan del Sur and Kapalong, Davao del Norte will join Davao City-based squads.

“We requested Jica to provide arrangements similar to our Cup, thus, free snacks and lunch will be provided as well as transportation subsidy to the participating teams during the clinic,” she added.

Meanwhile, Jica and the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office will also conduct an earthquake awareness seminar. (MLSA )
