THE body of the late Mayor Luis “Jacky” Jalandoni, III of La Carlota City is finally home after he succumbed to liver cancer.

His remains arrived past 1 p.m. Friday, January 10, at the Bacolod Silay airport.

Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer, acting Mayor Rex Jalandoon, Board Member Joven Alonso and his twin Mayor Jose Benito Alonso, Bago City Mayor Nicholas Yulo and wife Jarie Jalandoni-Yulo, other relatives and close friends came together to extend their sympathies to the bereaved family of the late mayor.

Mayor Jacky’s wife Josefina Alonso and children also arrived and were very emotional about the loss of the city’s chief executive.

Mayor Jacky is the son of former La Carlota City Mayor Luis “Nonoy” Jalandoni who was known as the father of the Pasalamat festival.

Mrs. Jalandoni said, “Personally, I lost a good man but more than just me, La Carlota lost a good leader. It was very heavy for us that he was gone but he needs to rest.”

“He told me that Babe, basi daw 2020 nalang gd ko kag naplastar ko naman kamo sang kabataan. That was one of our conversations before he was confined in the intensive care unit. When he was dreaming, he was mumbling on as if he was instructing his secretary to do the work. I guess he was dreaming about work. I even have a video of it. Those were his last words to me when we arrived at the hospital on January 4,” she said.

She described her husband as a kind and generous person.

“I said everything I wanted to say to him in private and I think he heard me and I think that is enough that he knows how I loved him. I have proven it to him how much I love him,” she said.

He will be brought to La Carlota City by 8 a.m., January 11.

He is the fourth of the six siblings.

“We thank the people of La Carlota for their love and support to my brother. He is a very generous and compassionate person. He thought of everyone’s interest more than his own. He is a selfless man,” Bago City first lady Jarie J. Yulo, the sister of Mayor Jacky said.

Meanwhile, Acting Mayor Rex Jalandoni said, the whole community of La Carlota City is mourning for the loss of a good leader, partner and friend. He is well-loved. I call him a partner in planning for the development of the city.

“I will continue his governance and his legacy for the people of La Carlota City. We will show our appreciation for his dedication to public service. We are right behind his family so that he will see it from heaven that we are together for his family and the community of La Carlota City,” he said.
