Baguio Stories

HAPPY New Year, one and all. May both 2019 and the incoming Chinese Year of the Metal Rat be a stupendous one for us!

Before that Chinese bang, let me just tie up a loose end – following Figlia a few weeks ago. The end of the digital trail in the “regular” net is that Figlia is a decades-old French company of which local brand Celine is now a part. There are brands that make one proud that it's made in the Philippines, Figlia being one of them.

I must confess though, that of the some number of Figlia shoes I have owned, only one proved to be a dud, cracking open a week into its use. Ah, quality control.

This week, a peek into what the soothsayers predict about the incoming Year of the Metal Rat.

Our go-to website, wofs.com, states the year's general outlook.

First, that the year features “a balanced basket of elements with no missing elements. But there are excessive amounts of Earth, which indicates increased stress and worry. There are however strong indications that underlying the increased tension lies treasure to be tapped. Something good will come out of any period of worry, and relationships will sustain despite temporary strains.”

Second, that “Emerging new technologies will be the driving factor behind new sources of wealth and business.”

And third, that “The biggest concern in 2020 would be the emergence of toxic people who ride on negativity to gain popularity and fame, and this, if left unchecked, could lead to much infighting and quarrels. Thus there is a need to control the negative energies brought by the dominant hostile star and the quarrelsome star in the sector of the Rat, the animal sign of the year.”

So strain and negativity, the need to control them, and good that will come out of any period of worry. Please go to that website, wofs.com, for detailed analyses of the stars of the year and how to subdue and enhance them, depending on their characteristics.

You could also get video versions of the Year of the Rat readings from many a source. My current Youtube favorite is Joey Yap. It seems that he is also Malaysian, just like Lillian Too of the wofs.com site. Yap calls the incoming year “uncomfortably exciting.”

Yap also goes on to classify the 12 animal signs of the Chineses zodiac into three: The “thrivers,” the “go-getters,” and the “givers.” He identifies the thrivers as goat (sheep), rooster, ox, and rabbit. Go-getters are tiger, pig, horse, and monkey. And givers: Dragon, rat, dog, and snake.

To know what Joey Yap says about those three clusters and individual animal outlooks for the incoming Year of the Rat, find him on YouTube. Work from there.

Next week, more on the Year of the Rat.
