CEBUANO warrior Roel Rosauro finally got that elusive first win in the ONE Championship cage after a unanimous victory over veteran Indonesian Yohan Mulia Legowo in the undercard of ONE Championship - “A New Tomorrow” on Jan. 10, 2020 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Rosauro started strong by dominating Legowo with his powerful leg and body kicks in the opening round.
The 31-year-old Rosauro, who fights out of Yaw-Yan Ardigma Cebu, continued where he left off in the second round by getting the same success with his vicious roundhouse kicks. Legowo, however, was very effective with his counter punches and even had Rosauro stunned with punch combinations.
In the third round, Rosauro once again dominated with his striking by landing at will. Legowo, however, was very tough and somehow kept standing up and moving forward.
Legowo was able to take Rosauro down but couldn’t capitalize with his ground game.
Near the end of the round Rosauro swarmed a spent Legowo with an array of strikes but somehow couldn’t finish him off.
“We are happy that we won in this fight because it was his last chance because the GAB (Games and Amusements Board) would no longer issue him an LOA (letter of authority) to fight overseas had he lost his third straight fight. That’s why I urged him to fight his hardest because it was our last chance. The GAB has a rule that you must have at least one win in three years for you to be able to fight overseas,” Yaw-Yan Ardigma Cebu founder and head Master Benigno “Ekin” Cañiga told SunStar Cebu.
Rosauro improved to 5-3, while the 39-year-old Legowo dropped to 8-9.
Rosauro made his ONE Championship debut in 2018 with a first round submission defeat to Li Kai Wen. It was followed by a unanimous decision defeat to Sunoto in that same year.
“I told Aki (Rosauro) that he’ll be given more fights in the ONE Championship if ever he won or put up an impressive performance,” said Cañiga. “I told him that he should not slack in training because in two to three months he’ll be given another fight. He has to stay ready always. Train hard, fight easy.” (EKA)
