Lumawag: Revisiting Griddle

I REMEMBERED the excitement I felt when I first visited The Griddle when it opened its store in 2016. It was among the first restaurants that I reviewed when I started Kape Diaries.

I fell in love with their burgers and sandwiches since I took a bite around four years ago. My visits here were quite frequent since it used to be near where I live. However, around two years ago, the burger shop transferred to its new location in Viajeros Inn in Matina, just in front of the Public Safety and Security Command Center.

Since they transferred to their new location, my visits here are not as frequent as I want it to be. When I have the chance to visit here, I make sure to enjoy as much of their food as I can.

One of my favorite additions to their menu is their breakfast meals. The last time I had any of their breakfast meals here was in October 2019. I ordered their Chicken Tocino and Pancakes during that visit.

It was a very filling meal. The Chicken Tocino was served with salted egg instead of the regular scrambled or sunny-side-up egg. The chicken tocino was tender and tasty. I like the marinade they have for their tocino. The garlic rice was too salty though. It was a good but salty dish. You will need lots of water for this.

I have tried their pancake during an earlier visit and it was fluffy. However, for this visit, the pancake was dry and had an odd grainy mushy texture after you pour the pancake syrup.

My most recent visit here was at the start of the year. Many restaurants were closed on January 1 but The Griddle was thankfully open for dinner. I wanted to keep things simple and went for a favorite, Homemade Bacon with Mozzarella Sandwich.

I was so happy to find out that nothing much has changed for the Homemade Bacon with Mozzarella Sandwich. It was still that delicious savory sandwich that I fell in love with the first time I visited The Griddle. Their barbecue sauce was as flavorful as I remembered it to be; the bacon was well seasoned and tender; the sandwich was cheesy too. It was delicious.

When it comes to their burgers and sandwiches, I think it is still as good as it was before. However, breakfast meals can be a hit or miss at times.

I would not mind visiting The Griddle again soon to enjoy a delicious burger or sandwich.
