THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) will start accepting voter registration on Jan. 20, 2020 or the day after the Sinulog Grand Parade.

Cebu Provincial Elections Supervisor Lionel Marco Castillano said the voter registration will be conducted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Saturday, including holidays.

The last day of the voter registration will be Sept. 30, 2021.

To establish his identity upon the filing of the application, the registrant may present any of the following valid identification documents: an employee’s ID with the signature of the employer or authorized representative, postal ID, discount ID for persons with disability (PWD), student’s ID or library card signed by the school authority, senior citizen’s ID, driver’s license, clearance issued by the National Bureau of Investigation or passport, among others.

A press release issued by the Comelec’s Education and Information Department dated Jan. 10 states that as per Resolution 10635, the commission decided to start the resumption of voter registration this month, instead of July 6, in view of the postponement of the May 11, 2020 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.

Applications for registration, transfer of registration records, change or correction of entries in the registration record, reactivation of registration record, and reinstatement of name in the list of voters will be accepted.

Persons with disability, senior citizens, as well as members of Indigenous Peoples or Indigenous Cultural Communities and other members of vulnerable sectors may also update their records.

Those who will be at least 18 years of age on or before Election Day, May 9, 2022, who have been residents in the Philippines for at least a year and in the place where they intend to vote for at least six months on or before Election Day, may register.

Registered voters as of the May 13, 2019 midterm elections need not apply anew. / RTF
