A MIDDAY barbecue event held at Cebu International School (CIS) marked the school’s 95th year. The nostalgia-filled milestone occasion gathered some of the school’s alumni, and former and current faculty members and families.

Established in 1924 as Cebu American School, the very first and original campus was located in a villa on Gorordo Ave., Cebu City, followed by the Banilad campus (opposite Cebu Country Club) and now at the northern suburbs of Pit-os, Talamban as its current home.

Reuniting on such a fun-filled day was a walk down through memory lane for all attendees, beginning with a few welcoming words shared by the school’s current superintendent, Dr. Gwyn Underwood. The school yearbooks, aptly named “Handumanan,” were made available for viewing to reminisce life at CIS as far back as when these mementos were first printed many years ago. Everyone was in high-spirits when the ever-so-exciting game of “kickball,” led by current CIS PE Coach Jaydil Hermias, was re-lived—a game that never fails to impress and has always been a popular sport in the early days in much of CIS history!

Some of the school’s former students also came in wearing the original house team sports uniform to dress the part and show their team spirit, rooting for Acacia (Green Team), Mahogany (Red Team), Molave (Yellow Team) and Narra (Blue Team).

Creating memories even more so, the 95 years of CIS was organized accordingly by Jennifer Basa (dean of Student Services, College & Career Adviser and Alumni Liason) and Justine Condor (marketing and student recruitment manager) with the gracious help of Paul John Kiener (Class 2001) as the event emcee.

Biggest congratulations, Cebu International School on your 95th year!
