A DIFFERENT challenge await runners and fitness buffs as the third edition of Cebu Vertical Horizon Run is set to test their mettle on Jan. 25, 2020, at the Horizon 101 towers along Gen. Maxilon Ave. in Cebu City.

The Vertical Horizon Run is not your usual running event as the participants will be running up and down the two towers of Horizon 101, the tallest condominium in Cebu City and outside of Manila. The runners can choose three categories—the Full Challenge, Half Climb or Relay.

For the Full challenge the participants will run up and down the Tower 1 (55 floors) and Tower 2 (46 floors), the Half Climb will cover only Tower 1 while the Relay will be a full challenge composed of two individuals.

“We’re the only event in Cebu to feature this challenge. On our first year, some of the participants were scared but they have now realized that’s it’s not that hard to finish as long as you have prepared for it,” said Horizon’s 101 project development manager Rona Lacanlale on Saturday’s press conference.

The competition is limited to only 350 participants: 150 slots available each for the Full Challenge and Half Climb and 25 pairs for the relay category.

“We started this a couple of years ago. We thought of an event to feature the tallest building in Cebu. It’s a good way of letting Cebuanos do stairs running, which is unusual. Also, it’s an opportunity for them to see the view of Cebu when they reached the top floor,” said Taft Properties executive Jason Gaisano.

Spicing up this year’s event is the presence of Southeast Asian (SEA) Games two-time gold medalist for triathlon Nikko Huelgas and silver medalist for obstacle course racing Sherwin Managil.

The men’s and women’s champions in the full challenge will bag P20,000 each; second and third placers will win P15,000 and P10,000; while the fourth to 10th placers will get P2,000 each. The men’s and women’s top three in the half climb will get P15,000, P12,000 and P8,000. Fourth to 10th placers will also win P2,000 each. For the relay, podium finishers will pocket P20,000, P15,00 and P10,000, respectively.

Registration fee is P1,000 for the Full Challenge, P850 for the Half Climb and P1,800 for the relay. (RSC)
