THE Ludo Golf Tournament is hoping that the annual staging of its charity event would inspire others to follow suit and do their part to help the less unfortunate.
This year’s staging of the tournament, which is entitled “Golf for Cotabato,” is being held to aid the victims of the earthquake that rocked Cotabato last year. The two-day competition, which has attracted 258 golfers from all over the Philippines and in some parts of the world, will tee off this Friday, Jan. 17, 2020, at the Cebu Country Club in Banilad.
“We have a responsibility to uplift our fallen brethren,” said Amanda LuYm, the daughter of tournament founder and head organizer, Douglas.
“We want to bring forward the idea that we can uplift lives with all efforts. No kindness is too small. It’s easy to be kind. It’s easy to be generous. We want to bring it forward and make it part of our family’s culture that we want to help people. We don’t want to leave anyone in the dark,” added the younger LuYm, who is also the head volunteer of the competition.
Douglas is hopeful that this endeavor may inspire other organizations or individuals to create events or other endeavors to help people in need. The 2018 version of the tournament raised P7 million for the families of the fallen soldiers in Marawi. The following year, the event raised P5 million for the victims of the landslide that affected more than 400 families in Naga, Cebu.
“Maybe other clubs can pick it up and do the same thing,” said Douglas. “Every time they have a tournament, they can do something and raise funds for the less fortunate people.”
There are plenty of prizes in store for participants of this tournament. This includes a Toyota Rush for the raffle during the awarding night and a number of cars for those fortunate enough to sink hole-in-ones at specific holes. Up for grabs are a BMW 320i, a Mercedes Benz 180 CLA, an Isuzu MUX, a Toyota Rush and a Mazda vehicle that will be announced later.
