Rising motorcycle accidents alarm DSB officials

LOCAL officials of Don Salvador Benedicto (DSB) have expressed alarm over the rising incidents of motorcycle accidents in its jurisdiction.

Because of the situation, members of the town’s municipal council have called for a dialogue among government agencies and motorcycle clubs.

In Resolution 2020-88 passed on January 8, 2020, the municipal council called for a dialogue with the Land Transportation Office, Highway Patrol Group and leaders of the different motorcycle clubs in the province to discuss and come out with solutions to the high incidents of motorcycle accidents in the town.

Records showed that a total of 20 motorcycle accidents were recorded in DSB. Of the total number, five incidents resulted in death while 55 individuals were injured.

The resolution pointed out that most of these accidents involve riders who either settle for the weekend or for a holiday ride.

It said these riders belong to motorcycle clubs and are not from the town, adding that most of the motorcycle accidents are caused by overspeeding and non-observance of traffic signs.

The resolution said that “in order to [prevent] the usual happening and in order to save the lives not only of the motorcycle riders but especially those of the excursionists and sightseers, who are just enjoying the picturesque landscape and ambience of Don Salvador Benedicto, a dialogue between the motorcycle clubs and local officials and government authorities seems a necessity.”

The resolution is authored by Councilor James Dino.
