THE Department of Education (DepEd) Regional Office III will conduct a seminar-workshop on positive discipline which in a bid to train teachers on the use of positive and non-violent approaches to discipline and classroom management.
The event will be held on January 15 to 17 at the National Educators’ Academy of the Philippines Central Luzon, Pulungbulu in Angeles City. Teachers will be encouraged to use the Primer on Positive Discipline in Everyday Teaching.
The said primer provides a quick reference guide for teachers who have already been trained in Positive Discipline in Everyday Teaching. It seeks to reinforce the teacher’s learning from the training and encourages her/ him to apply this in her/his classroom. It provides guidance on how to respond to common classroom situations using Positive Discipline.
“We want to orient the selected guidance counselors or teacher-designates for guidance, school heads, and teachers from the elementary and secondary level on the core concepts of child protection and the measure to shield them from any form of abuse, violence, or bullying,” said OIC-Regional Director Nicolas Capulong.
The Department of Education launched its Child Protection Policy on May 3, 2012, through DepEd Order No. 40, s.2012 to promote a zero-tolerance policy for any act of child abuse, exploitation, violence, discrimination, bullying, and other related offenses.
DepEd Spokesperson Undersecretary Annalyn Sevilla reiterated in an earlier statement that DepEd is a learner-centered institution which focuses to deliver a quality, accessible, relevant, and liberating education to the best interest of the child.
“Discipline as punishment is outdated and ineffective. What DepEd espouses is to implement massive training on positive discipline approach to all our teaching and non-teaching employees. We also need the cooperation and support of all stakeholders, particularly our dear parents, to understand, support and comply with our procedures and processes stipulated in the Child Protection Policy,” added Sevilla.
